1. What is NUCCA Chiropractic?

2. What exactly is a NUCCA Doctor?

The NUCCA Doctor is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic who, in addition to six or more years of education, utilizes a light force method of specifically adjusting the spine. The NUCCA Doctor has undergone extensive training specializing in correcting spinal misalignment by from the top of the spine. This method is gentle and effective and requires post graduate training. The NUCCA system is a painless and safe spinal correction which restores body balance and increases the body’s natural healing ability. Our clinic uses NUCC chiropractic exclusively, to care for our patients. This precision form of upper cervical spinal correction painlessly restores body balance without forceful movements or twisting of the neck or back.

3. How does this unique method differ from general chiropractic care?

One of the most obvious differences is the gentle, painless way in which a NUCCA Doctor works. No manipulation (twisting or cracking) is ever employed or needed. The NUCCA Chiropractor’s methods require such light touches to the affected area, that patients who may expect a forceful manipulation as part of their treatment, find it hard to believe that anything effective has been accomplished. But, their doubts and fears vanish as quickly as their pain and discomfort.

4. Does it hurt?

The NUCCA spinal adjustment is painless and barely felt by the patient. Because of the precise X-ray analysis, a correction can be made without any forceful jerking or twisting movements.

5. What can I expect after my first adjustment?

After the first NUCCA spinal adjustment, you may experience a variety of changes within your body. These are due to the nervous system responding to the structural adjustment. Symptoms are a positive sign that healing is taking place. In order to heal, the body must go through different cycles of repair which very often express themselves in some of the following ways:

  • Alleviation of symptoms
  • Tiredness or sleepiness
  • Muscle stiffness/Soreness

You should not be concerned if the pain changes or moves to another area of the body. Symptoms may decrease immediately. However, the amount of misalignment and severity of the condition will determine the recovery time. Please make the doctor aware of any and all changes. Remember, pain is a sign that the body is working, any changes can be part of the healing process.

6. How Long Does an Adjustment Last?

The accuracy of the procedure affords the patient longer lasting effects. Thus, one or two adjustments in many cases is usually all that is needed to get proven results. And while the Atlas can again lose its proper alignment for most patients the procedure results in far fewer visits than most other procedures. The end result is that NUCCA provides simple, gentle and great results. And that translates into greater relief, better health, fewer office visits and less money spent.

7. How do I maintain my NUCCA spinal adjustment?

Patients often ask what holds the spine in place once it has been corrected. When the head and neck have been re-placed to their natural position, the body will regain its normal balance and relationship to gravity. This will release tension held by the body due to its compensated stressed position. A relaxed body structure is now more stable and functions more freely. This, along with some specific instructions about body position, movement and a simple routine of therapeutic stretching exercises will allow the correction to hold for weeks, months and sometimes even years. 8. How is the treatment determined?

The spinal care is decided upon after a thorough evaluation of the patient’s symptoms and prior health history. Combining that information with the results of any orthopedic, neurological chiropractic examination, leg measurements, temperature differential studies, and X-ray studies, the doctor is able to pinpoint accurately the source of the problem and decide upon the best plan of health care.

9. Are X-Rays necessary?

Yes. It is important that certain X-rays be made. To see is to know, to not see is to guess. A NUCCA Doctor will never guess about your health. He/she has had extensive X-ray training and will never require X-ray studies which are not vital to the diagnosis and treatment of your condition.

Frequently asked questions about insurance  

 

Q:  Do you take insurance?

A:  We are not contracted with any insurance networks or HMO’s; however, if you’d like, we can take a copy of your insurance card and check on out-of-network chiropractic benefits for you.

 

Q:  Do you take Medicare?

A:  We’re a non-participating provider for Medicare services which means we can take a copy of your Medicare card and have the insurance forms filled out for you.  We will send the forms to Medicare about twice per month for you, and provide a copy for you as well.

 

Q:  How do I know where to send my claim forms?

A:  There should be an address on the back of your insurance card, but we’ll take care of the submissions to your insurance company electronically for you. 

 

Q:  How long does it take to get paid by my insurance company and/or for my visits to get counted toward my deductible?

A:  Usually about a month.

 

Q:  Is quoted insurance information over the phone from an insurance customer service representative a guarantee that my insurance will pay?

A:  No.

 

Q:  Does your office accept Co-Payments?

 A:  No.

 

Q:  Why don’t you participate in insurance networks or HMO programs?

A:  There are several reasons. Here are a few:  1) insurance companies don’t always pay the provider what they say they will; 2) since about 50% of healthcare expenditures in the US go toward administrative costs, not participating in insurance networks allows us to have less paperwork and not have unnecessarily higher fees; 3) ultimately, an insurance panel and computer software program is what determines the best care for patients and not the doctor; and 5) chiropractic helps by CREATING health – not treating disease.  Health insurance wasn’t designed to pay for healthy food, gym memberships and the like just as car insurance doesn’t pay for gasoline and oil changes, etc.
